In the three months to July 2024, the underlying value of construction starts in the east midlands surged by 33%.
Increases were also recorded in the south west and Wales, where the value of construction starts surged by 16% and 10% respectively.
Activity in the east midlands was driven by a mix of private housing and industrial work. The region has a “healthy” pipeline according to Glenigan, with 1,180 projects with planning permission due to start work in the next 12 months.
Private housing accounts for the majority of this with 737 schemes.
Winvic was revealed as the most active contractor in the region, having booked £632m of work in the 12 months to July 2024. This was led largely by industrial projects.

The pipeline is larger in the south west where 2,659 projects with planning permission are due to start work in the next 12 months. Private housing accounts for the majority of this with 1,141 schemes.
There is also a “significant number” of PBSA schemes that will start work in the region over this time.
Kier was revealed to be the most active contractor in the south west with £248m in booked work over the 12 months leading to July 2024.
In Wales, the pipeline of projects due to commence in the next year stands at 1,178. Infrastructure leads this number but there are 378 private housing schemes with planning permission in place.
Willmott Dixon was the most active contractor in the country with £334m of work booked in the 12 months leading to July 2024.
